Air India is slowly dying

mumbai.jpgAir India (Air India + erstwhile Indian Airlines) has to be one of the worst if not the worst on-time airlines in the world. Inspite of having large pool of aircraft and resources, they have on-time performances of less than 50% on any given day. (On-time performance is defined as departure and arrival within 15 minutes of scheduled time). In the Indian domestic sector, they have clearly become the worst performing airline. Even Simplifly Deccan (erstwhile Air Deccan) has dramatically improved service quality and on-time performances over the past few months while Air India is sliding down thick and fast. Air India’s domestic share has come down to 17%.  Passengers can maybe understand the fact that flights maybe delayed in the evenings because of rush hour in the skies but how can flights be delayed at 7am in the morning because of various stupid reasons. Air India recently posted a USD 120 Million loss in the past year. Air India also has the highest ratio of manpower to aircraft in the Indian aviation industry. Air India needs to shed excess staff, become more efficient in turning around the planes on ground and eventually improve on-air services. Air India needs to get its act together fast before it becomes an irrelevant airline not ony in India but also abroad.

The airline is going down slowly but surely. But I hope it doesn’t and would like to see the airline flying high once again.

The worst cosumer treatment I have ever had to endure.
Air India, should be sued, all C.E.O.’s shot and anybody associated with the airline, hung drawn and quarted. The space here doesn’t allow me to explain this insane airline, called Air India. If it wasn’t for my own phone-calls, I would be stranded right now in India, with no flight home. This is a crime, the airline should be fined. I have lost all hope in air flight after this experience. Who will save aviation???. If India evey thinks it will be a super-power look at it’s airlines, no chance. Even corrupt communism works better than the joke that is Air India. BOYCOTTing them, that is my only form of non-violent action.
We are not safe from these airlines. Good luck and happy traveling

Don’t blame Air India. Its the Govt. policies of hiring SC/ST/OBC that has brought the standard down. How do you expect the service to improve if the only person being put forth for promotions and training are not qualified individuals but less educated and less previlaged SC/ST/OBC candidates who have not concept of customer service.

well…welll…well…Ineffecient usage of resources is the sole culprit here. you cant expect to have double the number of QUALIFIED people per aircraft and still offer shoddy service.
